Event Description

Some of the best chefs, brewmasters and vintners in south central Wisconsin will be taking part in the upcoming annual gala fundraiser for Circus World on Sunday, June 10, 2012. Before long, everyone will enjoy sampling the tasty appetizers, delicious entrees, decadent desserts and refreshing beverages.

What happens at the gala?

Guests mingle with friends while bidding on a gargantuan array of silent auction items, while soft jazz, provided by the Gem City combo, provides the ambiance. There is a "cork sale," where $10 will buy a numbered cork, which you then take to our circus wagon to claim your bottle of wine or liquor. Everyone is a winner, with the cork sale, and some will take home an exceptional wine or premium spirit. The event culminates with an outstanding circus performance featuring a galaxy of professional circus stars.

A panel of expert judges will evaluate entries from over 30 restaurants, wineries and breweries. Winners will be awarded the prestigious "Silver Tray" in each of the following six categories. The winners for our 2011 event were:

  • Appetizer: Chef Bodhi Engler, Granite City Food and Brewery
  • EntrĂ©e: Executive chef Greg Smart, Fresh Madison Market
  • Dessert: Chef John Jerabek, Fresco
  • Beer: A tie between brewmaster Kirby Nelson, Capital Brewery, and Dave Fritz, president of Potosi Brewing Company
  • Wine: Cindy Ballweg, Wollersheim Winery
  • Best Table Presentation: Potosi Brewing Company

Outstanding Support for Circus World

In 2011, longtime table sponsors, supporters, chefs, restaurants, vineyards and breweries joined with newcomers in all categories to bring in over $200,000. Funds were raised through sponsorships, ticket and table sales, auction items and from the donation of goods and services. This annual event provides unparalleled support for Circus World's annual operations, performances and library & research center services.

Co-chairs of "Circus of Chefs ... The Gala 2012" are Susan and Jonathan Lipp of Full Compass in Madison, and Jenele and Merlin Zitzner of The Baraboo National Bank in Baraboo.
